~ a better you ~
Labor Day 2010 in Utah was clear, crisp, and gorgeous -- the perfect day for a hike.
Around 10 a.m., we headed up to the Salt Lake foothills. The cool air on my face was awesome. I found myself wishing I could somehow bottle up its freshness and include it in today's post. I know you would have loved it.
The older I get, the more I appreciate the natural beauty located right outside my door. I love hiking because it's both good for me (fresh air and exercise, anyone?) and because walking through nature for a few hours helps me keep things in perspective. I notice details that I ordinarily wouldn't: the way the sunlight catches fibers on a mountain flower or how the sky is made up of about a hundred different shades of blue. Standing on top of the hills behind my home and looking down on my city, a city I've fallen in love with, helps me realize how lucky I am to have a place in life's big, beautiful journey.
